In the past years, Boracay is one of the known tourist places in the world. It is acknowledged for its beautiful beaches and breathtaking sceneries. It is a perfect getaway and provides stress relieving programs or activities. However, due to overcrowding and the improper disposal of wastes, Boracay was shut down by President Duterte for a cleanup. This infographics explains Boracay throughout the years. the origin of boracay.

In 1940s to 1950s, Boracay was still a hidden paradise at that time. The residents of Boracay were called “Boracaynons” and they were also dependent in farming and fishing. In 1956, Boracay became an independent province and it became popular among the families living there and tourists started to visit the place on 1960s to 1970s. In 1978, a german writer known as Jens Peter, wrote a book titled “paradise on earth” describing the beauty of Boracay. In 2012, Boracay was named as the world’s second best beach by department of tourism after the beach Providenciales located in Turks and Caicos islands. It was also stated by Travel + Leisure, an international magazine, that is was the best island in the world. However, the island was closed on February 22, 2018, due to the 6 month cleanup program that was implemented by Duterte and will hopefully open to tourists by October 31, 2018. It was to rehabilitate and establish a proper sewerage system.

ABOUT US and mission

Boom Boom Boracay is a group that aims to bring awareness on the environmental needs of the Boracay island. The shut-down is an event that will go down in Philippine history as both a warning to care for the environment and a revelation of how badly-treated the environment is. With the 6-month shut-down, it just goes to show how deep the scars are from mistreating the beauty of Boracay. With the soft-opening coming soon, we aim to show awareness about this event and update the public on the current situation of the beautiful island.

Once known as “the beach capital of the Philippines”, Boracay is at a decline when it comes to its livability and tourist attraction. What’s more, it has been branded as a “cesspool” by the Philippine president himself, and it hurts to admit that it’s true. The situation of boracay has gotten extremely out of hand, and only the public can turn this situation around. So, let this tragic event serve as a reminder to take care of the environment. Let us help preserve nature’s beauty while simultaneously enjoying Mother Nature’s gift to us.
